Paint Protection Film in Suffolk County, NY

Paint protection film is a clear, self-healing urethane layer applied over paint to physically absorb rock chips and road debris. Ninja Auto Detail installs PPF at our Medford shop in four coverage tiers — Partial Hood, Partial Front, Full Front and Full Body. Pricing depends on vehicle and coverage, so we quote from photos rather than post a number we would have to revise.

What paint protection film actually is

Paint protection film is a clear urethane sheet, about eight mils thick, laid over your paint. When a stone comes off a truck on Sunrise Highway, the film deforms instead of your clear coat chipping. A coating is microns of hard chemistry and stops nothing physical — that is the category difference.

Coverage is the real decision. Partial Hood covers the leading 18 to 24 inches plus fenders and mirrors, where most chips land, at the lowest cost. Full Front wraps the whole hood, both fenders, the bumper and mirrors with no visible cut line. On a lease, chip damage is chargeable at inspection, and three years of highway commuting often costs about what film would have.

Who it’s for — and who it isn’t

Worth it if…

  • Highway commuters — the LIE and Sunrise Highway are chip factories
  • New cars, where preventing the first chip is cheaper than fixing it
  • Leased vehicles facing a return inspection
  • Dark and single-stage paint, where chips show hardest

We’ll steer you elsewhere if…

  • Paint that already has chips or failing clear coat. Film magnifies what is under it
  • Gloss and easier washing across the whole car — that is a coating, for far less
  • Repainted panels of unknown quality. Adhesive can lift poorly-bonded paint on removal

Saying this costs us some jobs. That trade is deliberate.

How the job runs

    Assessment and coverage

We pick the tier against how and where you drive.

  2. Step 02 2–6 hrs

    Decontamination and correction

Film is clear and permanent — whatever is underneath stays visible.

  3. Step 03 1 hr

    Pattern cut

Computer-cut patterns, or bulk film cut on the car for wrapped edges.

  4. Step 04 4–12 hrs

    Installation

Positioning, squeegee-out and heat-forming around complex curves.

  5. Step 05 1–2 hrs

    Edge work

What separates a good install from an obvious one.

  6. Step 06 24–48 hrs

    Cure

Minor haze or moisture pockets in the first week are normal.

What we use, and why

Self-healing TPU film
Eight mils of urethane with a topcoat that closes light marring under heat.
Non-yellowing clear adhesive
Stays clear for the life of the film and releases cleanly. Cheap film yellows.
Ceramic coating over film
Film can be coated — the usual pairing on a full front.

Durability and aftercare

Expected life
Quality film is rated for years against yellowing, cracking and delamination. The exact term depends on the film line, confirmed with you at the consultation.
Self-healing
Fine surface scratches close with heat — a warm day or warm water. Cuts through the film do not heal.
Care
Wash it like paint. The one thing to avoid is a pressure washer aimed straight into a film edge at close range.
Removal
Professional removal with controlled heat leaves factory paint intact — usually looking better than the paint around it.

Paint Protection Film questions

PPF or ceramic coating?

Film is physical — the only one of the two that stops a rock chip. A coating is chemical and UV protection plus gloss, across the whole car. The common setup is film on the front and a coating over everything, including the film.

Can you see the film?

On a good install you have to look for the edges. Where the panel allows we wrap them so there is no line at all. Partial tiers have a cut line across the hood by definition — the main reason people step up to Full Front.

Will it damage my paint when it comes off?

Not on factory paint, professionally removed with heat. The risk is aftermarket respray of unknown quality, and we check for that at intake.

Does it really self-heal?

Light surface marring, yes — the topcoat reflows with heat. A cut or deep gouge does not heal; that section gets replaced.

How much does PPF cost?

It depends on the vehicle and coverage tier — panel complexity varies enormously between cars. Send photos with a quote request and you get a real number, not a range.
