Exterior Detailing in Suffolk County, NY

Exterior detailing is a decontamination wash plus a protective layer: foam bath, two-bucket hand wash, wheels and door jambs, spray wax or sealant, glass and tire dressing. At Ninja Auto Detail it starts at $200 for a coupe or sedan as part of the Express Detail and takes 1.5 to 2 hours.

What exterior detailing actually is

An exterior detail is a wash done in the order and with the tooling that avoids putting scratches into the paint, then protection on top. Wheels first, because brake dust is the dirtiest thing on the car. Then a foam soak that floats grit off before anything touches it. Then a mitt, in straight lines, rinsed between panels.

Almost every swirl mark on a daily driver came from a wash, not the road. Tunnels drag the same brushes across a thousand cars a week; one bucket at home grinds the last car’s dirt into this one’s clear coat. Fixing that is paint correction, and it costs many times what avoiding it does.

Who it’s for — and who it isn’t

Worth it if…

  • Keeping a car that already looks good looking that way
  • Salt removal after a Long Island winter
  • Sand and salt-spray rinse-off after a beach summer
  • The maintenance wash between coating services

We’ll steer you elsewhere if…

  • Paint that is already swirled or oxidised. Correction removes defects; a wax hides them
  • Cars you want protected for years. That is a coating, and a sealant is no substitute
  • Rock chips and deep scratches. Those need film going forward

Saying this costs us some jobs. That trade is deliberate.

How the job runs

  1. Exterior Detailing step 1 at Ninja Auto Detail

    Step 01 20 min

    Wheels, tires and wells first

Separate tools and buckets. Brake dust never touches paintwork tooling.

  2. Exterior Detailing step 2 at Ninja Auto Detail

    Step 02 15 min

    Foam bath and dwell

Lifts grit off the surface so the mitt has less to drag.

  3. Exterior Detailing step 3 at Ninja Auto Detail

    Step 03 25 min

    Two-bucket contact wash

Straight lines, top down, mitt rinsed between panels.

  4. Exterior Detailing step 4 at Ninja Auto Detail

    Step 04 10 min

    Door jambs and shuts

The part that tells you whether a detail was actually done.

  5. Exterior Detailing step 5 at Ninja Auto Detail

    Step 05 20 min

    Protection

Spray wax for gloss now, sealant for months. Based on how you store the car.

  6. Exterior Detailing step 6 at Ninja Auto Detail

    Step 06 15 min

    Glass, tires and forced-air dry

Air through every trim gap and badge. Tires satin, not wet.

What we use, and why

pH-neutral foam
Will not strip an existing sealant or coating the way aggressive soap does.
Iron and fallout removal
Dissolves embedded brake and rail dust a wash cannot reach.
Forced-air drying
Towel drying is the second most common source of swirl marks.

Durability and aftercare

Spray wax
Four to six weeks of gloss and beading. Good before an event or a sale, not a protection strategy.
Sealant
Three to five months. Holds through a winter of road salt if the car gets rinsed between details.
When to step up
If you are paying for a sealant three times a year and keeping the car more than two years, a ceramic coating costs less over that window and protects better. We will do that maths with you.

Exterior Detailing questions

Will this remove scratches?

No. A wash and wax hides very fine marks temporarily but removes nothing. Removing defects is paint correction.

Is this better than an automatic car wash?

It is a different thing. Tunnels use the same brushes on every car and are the main source of swirl marks. A hand wash with foam pre-soak and two buckets is how you avoid adding damage.

How often should I have this done?

Every 8 to 12 weeks for most cars. Every 6 for a car that lives outside, plus a rinse during salt season.

Can you do this in winter?

Yes, with adjustments. Below a certain temperature sealants will not bond, and then we move the car inside rather than do work that will not last.

Does this include the inside?

Yes. The Express Detail covers both — vacuum, mats, full interior wipe-down and glass.
