Under the tree canopy up here, sap season and bird-dropping season overlap with everything else. That is the backdrop for every ceramic coating job we do in Stony Brook — Stony Brook University traffic and Route 25A do the rest. We cover it at our Medford shop, with pickup and dropoff available from Stony Brook, about 14 miles from the shop.
What Stony Brook does to a car
Harbor air brings its own salt load, and the mature canopy adds sap, bud drop and debris that holds moisture against the paint. Cars parked under the old trees collect sap and bird droppings in volume. Droppings are the urgent one — acidic, and they etch in hours in summer heat.
Sap and droppings are chemical attacks, and chemical resistance is exactly what ceramic coating provides.
Locally that plays out along Stony Brook University and Route 25A , and around the Stony Brook village centre. Those are the roads and places the cars we work on in Stony Brook actually spend their time, and it shows in what we find at the walkaround.

Ceramic Coating in Stony Brook — questions
Do you actually cover Stony Brook?
Yes. Ceramic Coating is performed at our shop at 266 Middle Island Rd Suite 7, Medford, about 14 miles from Stony Brook. You can bring the car in, or we can pick it up from Stony Brook and return it when the work is finished and cured.
How far is your shop from Stony Brook?
About 14 miles — call it 25 minutes door to door. We are at 266 Middle Island Rd Suite 7 in Medford, near LIE Exit 64. Traffic on Stony Brook University can move that either way.
What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?
How much correction happens underneath, and how many layers go on top. Level 1 is an enhancement polish at 40–60% defect removal plus one layer of CSL, for 2–3 years. Level 2 is a full multi-step correction at 80–90% plus CSL and EXO V5, for 5–6 years, and adds wheel faces and all exterior glass. On swirled paint, Level 1 locks the swirls in.
Does a ceramic coating prevent scratches?
No — this is the most oversold claim in the category. It resists light marring and chemical etching, not rock chips, keys or brush-wash swirls. For chips you want paint protection film.
Do I still have to wash the car?
Yes. A coating makes washing easier and less frequent, not unnecessary. Skip it for months and contamination builds on top — then people conclude the coating stopped working.
